Ice tongue is the name given to glaciers that reach the sea and, rather than immediately breaking up into icebergs, float onto the ocean. The banner image of this website is taken from a satellite photograph of the Erebus Ice Tongue which descends from the slopes of Mount Erebus onto McMurdo Sound, where it is locked in the sea ice just south of the Delbridge Islands.
IceTongue is also the name of the premiere online literary journal of Antarctica. Published during the austral summer (October-February), IceTongue is dedicated to presenting only the best new poetry and fiction of the seventh continent.
